Scabiosa Miniature Study is part of my Blooming Marvelous May and Miniature May artwork series, where I explored the beauty of flowers through small-format botanical studies. Known for its intricate petals and pincushion-like center, the Scabiosa offered an opportunity to focus on texture, layering, and subtle color transitions within a compact composition.

This piece began as a pencil drawing created with a mechanical pencil and refined with a kneaded eraser. Colored pencils were then used to build depth and variation throughout the flower and surrounding foliage. India ink pen provided the bold outlines and definition that help the bloom stand out, while acrylic paint pen added highlights and finishing details. After the traditional artwork was completed, I used Snapseed and Procreate to make final digital adjustments that enhanced the colors and overall presentation.

The result is a vibrant miniature botanical artwork that celebrates the intricate beauty of a single flower. The contrast between the soft lavender petals and the lush green background creates a striking composition that captures the charm of this often-overlooked garden bloom.

Product Story

Scabiosa flowers are admired for their distinctive shape and delicate texture. For this miniature study, I focused on capturing the bloom's layered petals and intricate center while maintaining the bold visual style that runs throughout my Blooming Marvelous May collection. The small format encouraged careful observation and attention to detail, turning a single flower into a vibrant celebration of color, texture, and nature.
