Forestbound Sentinel captures the spirit of the Belgian Malinois as the protector of the forest—representing the forest resource in this custom Settlers of Catan–inspired hex tile series. Known for their intelligence, loyalty, and unwavering vigilance, the Malinois is the perfect embodiment of the guard breeds assigned to the forest terrain.

This piece began as a hand-painted hex tile, created using Stuart Semple Super Base and White 2.0 acrylic paint to establish bold contrast and texture. POSCA acrylic paint pens were used to bring out sharp details and expressive highlights, giving the Malinois its commanding presence.

Once the traditional artwork was complete, the hex was sealed with a protective mattifying membrane coat varnish—locking in the textures and preserving the piece as a finished original. From there, the artwork was digitized and refined using Snapseed and Procreate, transforming it into a high-quality print while maintaining the integrity of the original brushwork.

As part of the Acrylic April series, each hex tile pairs a dog breed with a specific Catan resource. In this system, guard breeds belong to the forest, making the Belgian Malinois a natural sentinel of the woods.
