Shadows Beneath the Storm is a traditional mixed-media drawing that explores stillness, protection, and presence in the face of uncertainty. Three dogs stand together in silhouette beneath a fractured, storm-lit sky—rendered through layered graphite textures, soft washes of water, and deliberate restraint.
Created using graphite watercolor pencils and mechanical pencil, the piece builds contrast slowly, allowing shadows and negative space to do much of the storytelling. A kneaded eraser was used to lift light back into the sky, while water activated the graphite to create atmospheric depth. The hand-drawn border, finished with an acrylic paint pen, frames the scene like a moment preserved in time.
This artwork is part of my ongoing focus on dog-inspired storytelling—images that feel less like portraits and more like memories, symbols, or quiet chapters in a larger narrative.

I wanted this piece to feel grounded and timeless—like standing together when the sky changes overhead. Not dramatic motion, just presence.
