Below the Surface — Claiming the 2 of Spades is the original watercolor painting from the Barker’s of Ruin world, created during Aqua January, a water-themed art challenge focused on movement, depth, and reflection.
This piece captures a defining moment: a dog diving beneath the surface in pursuit of the 2 of Spades—a symbol of risk, resolve, and the instant when commitment replaces hesitation. In Barker’s of Ruin, cards represent choices that cannot be undone once drawn, and this artwork focuses on that exact point of no return.
The original was painted using traditional watercolor, with the linework drawn in acrylic paint pen, giving the piece a strong, deliberate structure beneath flowing washes of color. Subtle texture, organic edges, and natural variation in the paint make this a one-of-a-kind work that cannot be replicated.
This is a true original—not a print—and is ideal for collectors who value narrative artwork, symbolic themes, and fantasy-inspired dog art with emotional depth.
