This is the original mixed media artwork inspired by the account recorded in Joseph Smith—History 1:30–32, describing the angel Moroni’s nighttime appearance to Joseph Smith.
Joseph recorded that when Moroni appeared, a light filled the room and continued to increase until it became “lighter than at noonday.”
Created on blue tone paper, this piece intentionally began by establishing the light first using white India ink — allowing Moroni’s radiant presence to exist before the earthly elements of the room were built around it.
Layer by layer, the surrounding scene was developed to visually explore the contrast between a quiet, darkened space and the heavenly messenger described in scripture.
This original artwork was created using:
• Mechanical Pencil
• Kneaded Eraser
• White India Ink (Pen + Dip Pen + Brush)
• Multiple Colored India Ink Pens
• Acrylic Paint Pens
• Colored Pencils
• Black Acrylic Paint Pen
• Blue Tone Paper
The result is a faith-based piece centered around the theme:
Light overcoming darkness.
