Blooming Marvellous May & Miniature May: A Double Art Challenge

A Month of Growth and Detail

May is all about renewal, color, and fresh inspiration—and this year, I’m leaning fully into that energy. I’ll be participating in both the Blooming Marvellous May Flower Art Challenge and the Miniature May Art Challenge, combining them into a creative experiment that explores both variety and focus.

Instead of sticking to just one direction, I’m splitting the challenge into two distinct artworks—each with its own purpose, style, and creative challenge.

Piece One: 30 Flowers, One Composition

The first piece will feature 30 individual flower drawings, all arranged into a single cohesive artwork. Each flower will be its own miniature study—different shapes, colors, and personalities—while still contributing to the overall composition.

This piece is where I’ll really lean into:

  • Variety in flower types and forms
  • Small-scale detail work
  • Balanced layout across the full page

It’s essentially a collection of mini artworks within one larger piece, and it ties perfectly into both challenges—floral subject matter from Blooming Marvellous May and small-scale execution from Miniature May.

Piece Two: One Focused Drawing

The second piece will take the opposite approach.

Instead of many small elements, this will be one single drawing, giving me the chance to slow down and focus deeply on:

  • Composition and structure
  • Lighting and color harmony
  • Clean execution and intentional detail

This piece will serve as a contrast to the first—less about variety, more about refinement and clarity.

Why Do Both?

Taking on both challenges at once is intentional. It pushes me to work in two different creative modes:

  • Exploration Mode (30 flowers): fast, varied, experimental
  • Focus Mode (single drawing): slow, deliberate, polished

Together, they represent two sides of the same artistic process—learning through repetition and mastery through focus.

What to Expect

Throughout the month, I’ll be sharing progress, finished pieces, and possibly even time-lapse videos as part of my usual content stack on Savior Over Sin and The Artistic Shepherd.

Both artworks will eventually be available as:

  • Open edition prints
  • Blog features with full breakdowns
  • Social posts across all platforms

Final Thoughts

Challenges like these are more than just prompts—they’re opportunities to grow, experiment, and push creative limits. Whether it’s 30 tiny flowers or one fully realized piece, the goal is the same: keep creating, keep improving, and let the process speak through the art.

Stay tuned—this is going to be a blooming good month 🌸
