Desertbound Guardian: The Saluki of the Final Hex – Completing the Settlers of Catan Dog Series
Apr 28, 2026

The journey across forests, wheat fields, mountains, pastures, clay lands, and now the desert has reached its final destination. Desertbound Guardian: The Saluki of the Final Hex is the closing artwork in my custom Settlers of Catan dog hex painting series, completing a full collection where each resource tile was reimagined through hand-painted dog breed artwork.
For the desert tile, I chose the elegant and historic Saluki—a breed known for speed, endurance, and grace. With deep roots tied to desert regions and ancient hunting traditions, the Saluki was the perfect choice to represent the final hex. Its poised stance and streamlined silhouette bring life and movement to the warm open landscape of the tile.
This piece was created using Stuart Semple Super Base, White 2.0 acrylic paint, protective mattifying membrane coat varnish, and POSCA acrylic paint pens. Once the physical artwork was complete, I refined the final print presentation using Snapseed and Procreate for a polished digital finish.
What began as a creative challenge became a full themed collection celebrating dogs, fantasy-inspired landscapes, board game nostalgia, and handcrafted art. Each tile was paired with a breed chosen to match the spirit of its terrain—from working dogs in the forests to retrievers in the wheat, mountain breeds in the ore fields, herders in the pasture, sturdy guardians in the clay, and now the swift Saluki in the desert.
This final piece is perfect for Saluki lovers, collectors of dog art, board game fans, and anyone who enjoys imaginative handmade artwork with a story behind it.
