🐕🌾 Golden Guardian of the Wheat Fields
Apr 05, 2026

In Golden Guardian of the Wheat Fields, the warmth of the harvest meets the loyalty of one of the most beloved dog breeds—the Golden Retriever. Set within a Settlers of Catan-inspired hex tile, this piece transforms a familiar board game resource into a living, breathing scene. The wheat fields stretch outward in golden tones, symbolizing abundance, growth, and provision, while the retriever stands as a calm and watchful presence at the center.
This artwork is part of my ongoing Catan Dog Art Series, where each resource is paired with a dog breed that reflects its role and personality. Wheat, as one of the most essential and sustaining resources in the game, naturally aligns with retrievers—dogs known for their dependable nature, warmth, and connection to people. The result is a piece that feels both nostalgic and meaningful, blending gaming culture with expressive animal art.
🎨 Built Layer by Layer
This piece was created during Acrylic April, using a mix of traditional and digital techniques to achieve a bold, stylized finish.
All base materials—Super Base, White 2.0, and varnish—come from Culture Hustle, forming the foundation of the painting. From there, POSCA acrylic paint pens were used to define details, sharpen contrasts, and bring out the character of both the dog and the landscape. After the physical artwork was complete, subtle refinements were added using Snapseed and Procreate, enhancing clarity and balance without losing the handcrafted feel.
Each stage of the process builds toward a final result that feels clean yet textured—structured yet expressive.

Golden Guardian of the Wheat Fields is more than just a painting—it’s a bridge between worlds. It brings together the comfort of familiar games, the emotional connection of dog companionship, and the creative freedom of acrylic art.
And as the board continues to grow… each tile tells its own story.
