In the world of Settlers of Catan, the wheat fields represent growth, provision, and the steady rhythm of life. In Golden Harvest Companion, that spirit is brought to life through the warm, expressive presence of a Cocker Spaniel—standing as both a guardian of the harvest and a symbol of companionship.

This piece blends the natural softness of the breed with the golden tones of the field, creating a scene that feels both peaceful and full of life. The flowing ears, gentle gaze, and warm palette echo the abundance associated with the wheat resource, making this hex feel alive with purpose. Within this ongoing Catan-inspired series from The Artistic Shepherd, each dog is carefully chosen to reflect the essence of its environment—and the Cocker Spaniel perfectly embodies the heart of the harvest.

From Paint to Print: The Creative Process 🎨

This artwork began as a traditional acrylic piece, built layer by layer using Stuart Semple Super Base and White 2.0 acrylic paint to establish a bold, matte foundation. Fine details and linework were then added using POSCA acrylic paint pens, giving the piece its crisp definition and character.

To preserve the integrity of the original, a protective mattifying membrane coat varnish was applied as the final physical step—locking in both color and texture. From there, the artwork transitioned into the digital space, where it was refined using Snapseed and Procreate. This final stage ensures that every print captures the clarity, vibrancy, and depth of the original hex tile.
