There’s something naturally uplifting about the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. Bright-eyed, energetic, and always appearing ready for the next adventure, the breed carries a sense of joy that felt perfect for the next addition to my Settlers of Catan inspired dog art series. Golden Harvest Toller places that cheerful spirit against a warm wheat hex background, blending canine personality with the symbolism of abundance, growth, and prosperity.

In Settlers of Catan, wheat is one of the most important resources in the game. It represents food, growth, and the ability to expand. That made it the perfect setting for a breed known for enthusiasm, intelligence, and tireless work ethic. The Tolling Retriever’s rich orange coat naturally complements the golden tones of the harvest fields, creating a piece that feels warm, welcoming, and full of life.

This artwork began as a hand-painted wood hex tile using Stuart Semple Super Base, White 2.0 acrylic paint, protective mattifying membrane coat varnish, and POSCA acrylic paint pen detailing. Once completed, I refined the final presentation using Snapseed and Procreate to prepare it as a clean, vibrant print image.

The result is a unique combination of dog art and tabletop gaming inspiration—perfect for Tolling Retriever fans, board game lovers, and collectors of playful fantasy-style artwork. Whether displayed in a game room, office, or living room, this piece brings bright energy and rustic charm to the space.

If you enjoy dog breeds reimagined through creative themes, this growing Catan hex collection continues to expand with new breeds and resource-inspired designs.
