Inktober 2026 – B Is for Bull Terrier: The Next Chapter of Lexicon Lands
Oct 12, 2026

The journey through Lexicon Lands continues! For my second drawing in the Inktober 2026 A–Z Dog Breed Art Challenge, I'm featuring one of the most recognizable dogs in the world: the Bull Terrier!
With its distinctive egg-shaped head, upright ears, and muscular body, the Bull Terrier has an appearance that sets it apart from nearly every other breed.
After beginning the challenge with the Akita, I'm excited to share the next addition to this growing collection of dog illustrations.
B Is for Bull Terrier!
For this illustration, I decided to draw a Bull Terrier sitting upright and facing the viewer.
One of the most interesting features of this particular dog is the dark patch surrounding one eye. This marking creates a striking contrast against the dog's predominantly white coat.
I wanted to emphasize the Bull Terrier's unique facial structure while keeping the illustration relatively simple, allowing the bold ink outlines and carefully placed grey shading to define its appearance.
The result is a black-and-white illustration that celebrates the breed's distinctive character.
My Traditional Drawing Process
Like my previous Inktober drawing, I used a combination of traditional art materials to create this illustration.
I started with a mechanical pencil, carefully sketching the Bull Terrier's proportions, posture, and facial features. A kneaded eraser helped me clean up the sketch and prepare it for the inking process.
Next, I used a dip pen with black and white ink to create the outlines and define the dog's most recognizable features.
For the grey areas, I used a watercolor brush to apply grey ink tones. These subtle shades helped create dimension without overwhelming the simplicity of the black-and-white design.
Finally, I used an acrylic paint pen to create the bold border surrounding the illustration.
This border is part of the visual presentation I'm developing for my Inktober 2026 collection.
Adding Digital Finishing Touches
Although the Bull Terrier illustration was created primarily with traditional materials, I also used two digital applications to prepare the finished artwork.
Snapseed helped me make adjustments to the photographed drawing, while Procreate allowed me to make additional digital touch-ups and refinements.
Combining traditional and digital techniques helps me prepare my artwork for online presentation and art prints while maintaining the appearance of the original drawing.
How I'm Organizing My Inktober 2026 Originals and Art Prints
For this year's Inktober challenge, I'm taking a slightly different approach to how I create and sell my artwork.
While all 27 dog breed illustrations will be available as individual art prints, the original artwork will be organized differently.
-
A Is for Akita: One standalone original drawing.
-
B through Y: 24 dog breed illustrations arranged across four original sheets, with six drawings on each sheet.
-
Z Is for Zerdava: One standalone original drawing.
-
Wildcard – Valor the Swiss Shepherd: One standalone original drawing.
This means the complete collection will feature seven physical original artworks, containing 27 individual dog illustrations.
How Will the Artwork Be Sold?
Individual Art Prints: Each of the 27 dog breed illustrations will have its own separate print listing, allowing collectors to purchase their favorite breeds individually.
Original Artwork: The B through Y illustrations will remain together on their respective sheets of six. These originals will be sold as complete sheets rather than as individual breed drawings.
The Akita, Zerdava, and Valor originals will each be available separately because they are standalone drawings.
This approach allows me to create a cohesive collection of original artwork while still giving dog lovers the opportunity to collect prints of their favorite breeds.
The individual illustrations will also serve as the foundation for my upcoming Lexicon Lands playing-card-inspired designs.
From Inktober Drawings to Lexicon Lands Cards
Another exciting part of this challenge is that these illustrations aren't just being created for Inktober.
I'm also planning to transform the dog breed drawings into a collection of Lexicon Lands playing-card-inspired artwork.
My goal is to use the original illustrations as the foundation for card designs featuring the different breeds.
Each card will incorporate elements of the corresponding dog illustration, creating a connection between the original artwork and the finished card collection.
The Bull Terrier will eventually represent the letter B in this project!

What's Next in Lexicon Lands?
With the Akita and Bull Terrier completed, the next letter in my Inktober 2026 challenge is C Is for Cardigan Welsh Corgi!
I'm looking forward to continuing this collection and experimenting with the different shapes, markings, and personalities of the dog breeds featured throughout the alphabet.
From large working dogs to smaller companion breeds, each illustration presents a different artistic challenge.
Thank you for following along with my Inktober 2026 journey!
One letter, one breed, and one drawing at a time, Lexicon Lands continues to grow!
