October at The Artistic Shepherd: Inktober, Drawlloween & New Ways to Explore My Art
Oct 01, 2026
October has arrived at The Artistic Shepherd, and this month I’m combining two art challenges with a refreshed way to explore my website. Inktober 2026 is giving me the opportunity to work through an A–Z collection of dog breeds, while Drawlloween is taking my canine artwork in a much spookier direction.
To celebrate, I’ve also created a new collection of illustrated navigation buttons for my website. Each button has its own artwork while sharing an ink-inspired visual style that ties into October’s creative theme.
🖋️ Taking on Inktober 2026
My main art challenge this October is Inktober, and this year I’m creating an alphabet of dog breeds. From Akita for A all the way through Zerdava for Z, each letter gives me a new breed to draw and a new opportunity to explore its distinctive appearance.
I’ve even added a 27th wildcard drawing featuring Valor the Swiss Shepherd, bringing my own Artistic Shepherd mascot into the challenge.

The new Inktober Art button reflects the challenge with an old-fashioned bottle of ink, dip pen, ink splatters, and hand-lettered typography. It serves as a visual introduction to what much of October will be about: putting ink to paper and seeing where this A–Z journey takes me.

My completed Inktober pieces will be collected on the Art Challenge Artwork page so visitors can follow the challenge as it grows.
🎃 Adding Drawlloween to the Mix
Inktober isn’t my only October challenge. I’m also participating in Drawlloween with a smaller selection of Halloween-themed dog illustrations.
Rather than following another full daily prompt list, I chose a handful of ideas that let me combine dogs with classic Halloween imagery. My planned Drawlloween artwork includes Werewolf Shepherd, The Headless Dog Walker, Cerberus Trick-or-Treating, and Dog-O’-Lanterns.
I’m also creating a Halloween-themed version of The Artistic Shepherd logo, transforming the shepherd mascot into a furry werewolf while bringing Halloween elements into the design.
The new Seasonal Art button celebrates this side of October with a glowing dog jack-o’-lantern, autumn leaves, a moonlit sky, bats, corn stalks, and a cozy Halloween setting. My completed Drawlloween pieces will join my other holiday and seasonal artwork on the Seasonal Art page.

🐾 More Than Just October
Although Inktober and Drawlloween are taking center stage this month, I wanted the new buttons to make it easier to discover the wider world of The Artistic Shepherd.
The Dog Art by Breed button leads into one of the biggest parts of my work: artwork organized around individual dog breeds. It features a dog alongside bold ink textures and paw-print details that connect it visually with the rest of the new navigation.

The Religious Art button takes a quieter approach, with a cross overlooking a mountainous landscape. This section brings together artwork inspired by faith, scripture, symbolism, and religious storytelling.

The Art Challenge Art button features a sketchbook marked Art Challenge in Progress, surrounded by brushes, ink, and drawing tools. It’s an especially fitting destination this month because this is where visitors can follow artwork created for challenges such as Inktober.

🎥 See More Through My Videos
Creating the finished artwork is only one part of what I enjoy sharing.
The Videos button features a vintage movie camera and filmstrip and provides another way to explore my work. Through my videos, I can share artwork, creative projects, challenges, and other parts of what happens behind the scenes at The Artistic Shepherd.
It connects the finished pieces on my website with the larger creative journey surrounding them.

🏰 Enter Barker’s of Ruin
The final button leads somewhere very different.
Barker’s of Ruin represents the fantasy and game-design side of my creativity. Its button features a dark ruined castle overlooking a rocky landscape, immediately separating it from the lighter art categories while still maintaining the same ink-based visual language.
It’s a reminder that The Artistic Shepherd isn’t limited to traditional dog portraits. Dogs can become adventurers, heroes, monsters, game characters, and inhabitants of much larger imaginary worlds.

🎨 A Creative October Begins
These seven buttons—Inktober Art, Seasonal Art, Dog Art by Breed, Religious Art, Art Challenge Art, Videos, and Barker’s of Ruin—are designed to make it easier to jump into different areas of my creative work while giving the homepage a unified artistic look.
For October, however, my attention will be especially focused on those first two challenges.
Inktober will take me through an alphabet of dog breeds, while Drawlloween will give me an excuse to explore the stranger side of canine art with werewolves, shadow hounds, Cerberus, glowing pumpkins, and Halloween fun.
There’s going to be plenty to create.
Thanks for following along, supporting my artwork, and joining me for another month at The Artistic Shepherd.
Here’s to a month filled with dogs, ink, pumpkins, and imagination. Happy Howl-o’-ween! 🐾🖋️🎃
