Pulled from the Current — A Barker’s of Ruin Character Moment
Jan 04, 2026

Moment
Some party members are met in taverns.
Others are found mid-journey—caught in danger, waiting to be noticed.
Pulled from the Current captures one of those moments from the world of Barker’s of Ruin: the instant a potential party member is saved from a raging river. Before names are chosen. Before stats are rolled. Before the cards decide their fate.
This Labradoodle is frozen in that threshold between fear and trust—the second where survival becomes connection.
🌊 A Recruitment Moment in Barker’s of Ruin
Within Barker’s of Ruin, rescuing a dog from a river isn’t just a dramatic event—it’s one of the ways a new party member can be gained. It’s a test of choice, timing, and compassion. Do you intervene? Do you risk the current? Do you reach out?
This artwork represents that narrative trigger—the rescue itself—before the character’s role in the party is defined. It’s not about victory or power. It’s about being pulled back from the edge.
🎨 Medium & Process
This piece was created using watercolor pencils, activated with water to preserve movement and texture, then outlined with acrylic paint pen to bring clarity and contrast to the form.
The combination allows the water to feel alive in the piece—unpredictable and expressive—while the bold outlines anchor the character within the chaos. The goal wasn’t realism, but emotion: wet fur, tension in the posture, and the quiet relief of survival.

🎲 Story Before Stats
What I love most about moments like this—both in games and in art—is that they happen before definition. Before abilities. Before alignment. Before the dice tell you who someone is.
This Labradoodle hasn’t been named yet.
But they survived.
And sometimes, that’s enough to begin.
