Rain Over Pawston: A Stormy Town Sketch Where the Battle Begins

Some places don’t need a character introduction—because the setting itself already feels like a warning.

Pawston is one of those places.

In my Woof&Wyrm.exe world, Pawston is the town where the battle against Catrick takes place… and in this piece, I wanted to capture the mood right before the clash begins. Not the loud moment of impact—but the quiet tension of the street before everything changes.

This artwork is titled Rain Over Pawston, and it’s a grayscale environment sketch that leans into atmosphere: wet stone, heavy clouds, and that familiar feeling that something is coming.

The Mood of Pawston: Quiet Streets, Heavy Rain, Big Trouble Coming

There’s something about a rainy town that makes everything feel more dramatic.

The rooftops feel sharper.
The street feels longer.
The shadows look deeper than they should.

That’s the energy I wanted for Pawston—like the town is holding its breath.

Even without seeing the battle itself, this scene carries the weight of it. You can almost imagine the footsteps around the corner, the distant sound of armor, and the uneasy calm before chaos breaks loose.

Materials Used (How I Made This Artwork)

I kept this one gritty and simple on purpose—just enough detail to feel grounded, but not so much that it loses the mood.

Rain Over Pawston was made using:

  • Mechanical pencil

  • Kneaded eraser

  • Graphite watercolor pencils

  • Water

That graphite + water combo is one of my favorite tools for environments because it gives a natural stormy gradient without needing full color.

Final Thoughts: The Town That Sets the Tone

I love creating pieces like this because they feel like pages torn out of a campaign journal—locations that aren’t just backgrounds, but moments.

Pawston isn’t just a town.

It’s a setting that tells you what kind of story this is.

And with the rain falling steady and the streets empty for now… it’s only a matter of time before the battle begins.

Until next time—
No Tail Left Untold. 🐾
