In the world of Settlers of Catan, wood is more than just a resource—it’s the foundation of growth. Roads, settlements, and expansion all begin with timber. But what if that resource wasn’t just gathered… what if it was guarded?

“Timberbound Guardian” brings that idea to life through the form of a steadfast German Shepherd, standing firm against a rich wooden hex background. There are no distractions here—just the raw, grounded presence of wood and the unwavering loyalty of a guardian breed. This piece captures the essence of structure, stability, and the quiet strength that builds everything else.

From Material to Meaning 🎨

This artwork was created using a blend of bold traditional and digital techniques. Built up with Stuart Semple Super Base, layered with White 2.0 acrylic, and sealed using a protective mattifying membrane varnish, the physical piece carries a tactile, almost carved-in feel—perfectly matching the wood theme.

Fine details were added using POSCA acrylic paint pens, giving the German Shepherd its sharp, confident outline. From there, the piece was refined digitally using Snapseed and Procreate, enhancing contrast and bringing out the natural depth of the wooden texture.

The result is a hybrid piece—rooted in physical media, but polished with digital precision.

A Living Catan World 🎲

This piece is part of a growing series where each Catan resource is reimagined as a living world, protected by a breed that embodies its essence.

• Wood (Lumber) → Strength, growth, foundation
• German Shepherd → Loyalty, protection, structure

Together, they form a perfect match—a guardian not just of the land, but of everything built upon it.

Each hex in this series transforms the board into something more immersive:
not just a game, but a world where every tile has a story… and every story has a protector.
