Verdant Guardian of the Open Plains — Protector of the Grazing Fields

When the Land Watches Back
🎨 Bringing the Plains to Life
In Verdant Guardian of the Open Plains, the quiet strength of the plains takes form through a Border Collie—focused, intelligent, and deeply connected to the land it watches over. This piece is part of my ongoing Acrylic April series, where each artwork represents a different resource from a Settlers of Catan–inspired world, reimagined through dog breeds that embody each environment.
The plains, known for grazing and growth, felt like the natural home for a herding dog. The Border Collie isn’t just present in this scene—it belongs here. It becomes a symbol of order, awareness, and stewardship over the open land, turning a simple hex tile into something more narrative and alive.
🖌️ The Creative Process
This artwork was created using a layered mixed media approach, building from structure into bold, vibrant color. Using acrylic paint pens and foundational layers, I shaped the rolling plains and brought the Border Collie into focus with clean, intentional linework.
Once the physical piece was complete, I refined the final image digitally using Snapseed and Procreate. These finishing touches enhanced contrast, clarity, and overall presentation while staying true to the original artwork.
🌿 A Growing World of Guardians
Each tile in this series is part of something larger—a full custom dog-themed Catan set where every landscape has a guardian. From golden wheat fields to forest sentinels and beyond, this collection is about building a world where dogs represent not just companions, but protectors of the land itself.
Verdant Guardian of the Open Plains adds another piece to that world—calm, watchful, and rooted in purpose.

✨ Final Thoughts
This piece is a reminder that even the most open and peaceful landscapes have a presence watching over them. The plains may seem quiet—but they are never unguarded.
And in this world, every land has its dog. 🐾🌾
